REMIX

Tay’s music – described as “wildly inventive and riveting” (Osborn) and “overflowing with beauty and poignancy” (Ko) – distils the overwhelm of existence with its pace, hyperactivity and illusions. Teachers and collaborators include Professor Julian Anderson CBE, Malcolm Singer, Colin Matthews, Christian Mason, François Xavier-Roth, the London Symphony Orchestra (Panufnik 2018 - 19), Brett Dean, the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO Young Composers’ Scheme 2021 - 22), Britten Sinfonia, National Youth Choir, Ben Parry, Emily Dickens, Kerry Andrew (National Youth Choir Young Composers’ Scheme), Robin Holloway, Richard Causton (Kings and Churchill College Cambridge), Judith Weir and the Heath Quartet (Dartington). In 2024, NMC Recordings has released 2 tracks recorded by the National Youth Choir, DEEP (HUH?!) and RainFlow’rs, which are available on streaming platforms. In February last year, Tay’s 20 minute commission from Wigmore Hall, money & yes, was premiered at the venue by Exaudi and GBSR Duo alongside new commissions from Cassie Kinoshi, Joe Bates and Linda Catlin Smith that he curated as part of his _Voices of Today_ showcase. In June, his piece _britmod_ (described by The Arts Desk as a “blindingly brilliant soundscape”) for mezzo-soprano and sinfonietta was premiered at Aldeburgh Festival by Joanne Evans, Jonathan Bermann and the Britten Pears Contemporary Ensemble. Inspired by his experience singing in Idrîsi Ensemble, Tay has now begun integrating his own voice into new compositions. A recent project included collaboration with Di Mainstone and Ellie Stamp on a short film, entitled _Mind Garden_. He looks forwards to a collaboration with The Lyons Mouth on the theme of childhood.
