Donna Kim is a London-based choreographer and movement artist whose practice explores the body through movement, breath, and embodied perception. Trained in Korean traditional dance, she approaches tradition as a living physical language that can be questioned, transformed, and reimagined through the body.
Breath is at the centre of Kim’s choreographic research. She explores breath as both a physical process and a way of sensing, relating, and understanding the body. Through sustained attention to breathing, she investigates how invisible experiences can become perceptible through movement, exploring themes of presence, anxiety, communication, existence, and trace.
Kim’s practice is grounded in an ongoing study of the body as both a medium and a site of research. Through choreography and performance, she explores rhythm, stillness, energy, weight, resistance, and space, developing a contemporary movement language informed by the breath and embodied principles of Korean dance.
Alongside her choreographic practice, Kim has worked as a performer, choreographer, and creative director across interdisciplinary projects involving dance, film, sound, visual art, architecture, and fashion. Her collaborations include Nowness Asia, Sadler’s Wells East, BFI Southbank, BBC Television Centre, The Place London, Royal College of Art, Centre Pompidou Paris, Zaha Hadid Architects, and London Fashion Week. In 2024, she was a finalist for the MullenLowe NOVA Awards at Central Saint Martins.
