Kang Yang is an internationally acclaimed Guzheng virtuoso, crosscultural artist, and creative producer based in London. Recognised for redefining the possibilities of Chinese traditional music through innovative performance, artistic excellence, and interdisciplinary collaboration, he has established himself as one of the leading young ambassadors of the guzheng on the international stage. His debut was described by The Guardian as “utterly astonishing.” Kang has performed at prestigious concert halls, museums, and cultural institutions across Europe and China, including the Barbican Centre, The O2 London, the British Museum, Serbia National Theatre, Milton Court Concert Hall, Central Hall Westminster, Chongqing Grand Theatre, Guotai Arts Centre, and Changsha Concert Hall. As Artist-in-Residence to the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom, he regularily represents Chinese musical culture through diplomatic performances, international festivals, and cultural exchange initiatives. Dedicated to expanding the contemporary repertoire of the guzheng, Kang has introduced numerous UK premieres, world premiere performances, and original arrangements, including Love in the Spring Breeze, Ode to the Spring, Initial Heart, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and his own reimagining of Spring River, Flower, Moonlit Night. His artistic practice bridges traditional Chinese music with orchestral, chamber, vocal, and multidisciplinary performance, creating new dialogues between Eastern and Western musical traditions while preserving the instrument's rich cultural heritage. An active collaborator across the classical, contemporary, and commercial arts sectors, Kang has performed with the London Contemporary Orchestra for Burberry's London Fashion Week, recorded for Chanel's Autumn/Winter 2022 Paris Fashion Show, and collaborated with the internationally acclaimed collective SAULT under conductor Rosie Danvers, contributing to three studio albums. Through international performances, museum programmes, festivals, university residencies, and creative collaborations, Kang continues to champion Chinese traditional music on the global stage.
