Cheng Peng is a groundbreaking erhu virtuoso, known for her electrifying performances, impeccable technique, and deep musical expression. Based in the UK, she is an active soloist and collaborator, frequently invited to perform at major music festivals and cultural events across Europe, including in the UK, the Netherlands, Portugal, and beyond. Her artistry seamlessly bridges the traditional and the contemporary, bringing the evocative sound of the erhu to new audiences around the world.

A former member of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO)—one of the world’s leading Chinese orchestras—Cheng has played a significant role in introducing Chinese music to global audiences. In 2020, she toured Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Austria, and Hungary with HKCO, bringing the powerful sounds of Chinese orchestral music to international concertgoers.

Cheng trained under Professor Jiemin Yan, a world-renowned erhu virtuoso, at the Central Conservatory of Music. Over the years, she has received numerous prestigious accolades, including the Outstanding Award at the Wenhua Awards (presented by China’s Ministry of Culture) and top prizes in international erhu competitions. Her deep understanding of both traditional and modern repertoire allows her to craft performances that are both technically masterful and emotionally compelling.

Passionate about cultural exchange and education, Cheng is dedicated to promoting the erhu on the global stage. In addition to her solo performances, she actively engages in cross-disciplinary collaborations, chamber music projects, and educational workshops at universities and music institutions. Her work not only showcases the erhu’s rich heritage but also redefines its role in contemporary music, inspiring new generations of musicians and audiences alike.
